Climate Change Action
In line with the industrial sector target of the 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution, LX Glas aims to reduce emissions by 15% compared to 2018. We have also developed a mid-to long-term roadmap with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In the short term, we are carrying out various activities to decrease emissions through improved energy efficiency (e.g., energy-saving furnaces at Gunsan Plant Units 1 and 3) and process. In the mid- to long-term, we will reduce GHG emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by enhancing our technology, such as adopting CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) and using renewable energy sources like hydrogen.
Greenhouse Gas Emission Management Framework
LX Glas participates in the emissions trading scheme and following the relevant regulations.
In accordance with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Korea has been running the emissions trading scheme since 2015. LX Glas is also faithfully participating in the GHG emissions trading scheme in line with regulations. Our company manages direct and indirect GHG emissions, as well as tracks and measures energy usage in the head office, Ulsan Plant, and sales branches. We collate monthly data companywide to manage GHG emissions, and conduct third-party assurance to ensure accuracy of the data.
Activities to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
We use a variety of technology and activities to reduce GHG emissions and thereby contribute to environmental conservation.
LX Glas has established a 2050 Carbon Neutral Roadmap, and adopted activities and technology to reduce GHG emissions. We replaced our outdated facilities with high-efficiency ones, switched to LED lights, and conducted other activities to reduce GHG emissions. As a result, during the third phase of the plan, we were able to sell our excess carbon credits. LX Glas will continue to implement activities to reduce GHG emissions including expanding use of renewable energy in our melting facilities and other areas. We will work to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and take the lead in building a sustainable future for future generations.
